“Hi. My name’s Marvin.”
“Hi, Marvin.” “I’m a cannibal.” Marvin tried to calm down. His heart was beating so fast and his voice wavered with that last confession. They were hard words to say. Marvin only talked about this with Leila, his close friend. He wished she was there. He could’ve used the support. Instead, nine faces stared at him, some with acne, some with make-up, one girl was anemic, and some moisturized better than others. It was Marvin’s first self-help meeting for cannibals and he still wasn’t sure if he liked it. He tried to smile at the group.

After "The Walking Dead" panel where the actors of deceased characters discuss the show and answer fan questions, Chad Coleman (Tyreese on the show), the delightful person he is, was open to an interview. He took me, Nichelle and Eric backstage where I had the pleasure of interviewing him about his new project "Treadwater," a sci-fi show about private peace-keeping organization. It doesn't seem like it'll be very peaceful, though. Coleman said the con is “just a big love fest” and that he’s having fun. “People dig the show and they just want to share that,” Coleman said. “It’s good to give the fans an opportunity to express themselves.” I think the word "comic-con" should by synonymous with "freaking inspiring" because every time I got to a comic-con, I spend the next week daydreaming about the characters and stories that cosplayers brought to life, and how inspired those people are to put so much effort into a costume.
That was probably the longest lead I've ever written, but it goes well with the topic of Motor City Comic-Con and geek culture in general. Camren Bicondova, 15, who plays Selina Kyle on “Gotham,” seemed a little nervous, and her slight awkwardness only added to her endearing character. Random facts we learned about Camren Bicondova during her 2015 Motor City Comic-Con Panel: Her favorite band is Alabama Shakes. Her favorite superhero is Catwoman, and no other. She likes dancing because it helps her *make expressive arm movements* Her cat’s name is Mr. G. Her favorite colors are blue and lavender. If she wasn’t Catwoman, she'd rather have telepathy. |
